Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why Choose TPW Systems for my new build system?
Septic tank and wastewater treatment systems can be a bit of a minefield for most home builders. Our company are the absolute experts in selecting the right system for your family and your site, with up to date technology while at the same time saving you money and hassle on the purchase.
We guarantee full attention from start (with free consultation) to finish and unrivalled after care.
2. Who fits my system?
That varies a bit sometimes, the system may be fitted by your builder or groundsman/ digger man who must be competent and aware of all relevant regulations. This way will require 3rd party supervision by your Engineer (make sure it is part of his brief or it may occur extra charges) if the system is purchased from our company, we forward full pre-delivery ground
preparations to avoid any installation issues.
Alternatively, TPW Systems offer full supply, installation, certification Service.
3. Whats the differences between septic tanks(ST) and wastewater treatment systems(WWTS)?
– Septic Tanks are a conventional method of household effluent disposal still allowed but only under very limited conditions and circumstances, where there is good soakage with no water table or rock and a fall from the dwelling.
The septic tank itself does not treat any of the pollutants but separates out the solids which are piped to a distribution box and into a large trench percolation area where interaction with the receiving soils treats the effluent. Common belief is that ST systems are cheaper but with recent hike in material costs stone etc there are no savings over installation of WWTS.
-Wastewater treatment systems WWTS are housed in a tank that treat the effluent to a certain standard which protects the surrounding environment and allows a lot smaller percolation area. Properly installed and maintained WWTS are best option for long life service and Environmental
protection.
4. When is the best time to install the system?
Although systems can be installed during the winter and often are, dry conditions are more favourable.
We often advise installing the system early in the build to have it signed off early in construction as it can often hold up payment of final mortgage drawdowns and it one or the other be used by builders for toilets and welfare units.
5. Can I change the type of system from what was originally specified in my planning?
The answer is Yes you can, although many believe its not. Once the changed system is certified for use in Ireland and the change is in line with the current Epa Code of practice.
Tpw systems will where necessary file the change with the local authority with site specific report and drawings if required.
6. Electrical requirements and consumption?
Our Eurotank Baf2 unit uses 1kw/hr day which in monetary
terms costs roughly €150 per annum. Supply requires 2.5 3 core armoured cable which is supplied by site electrician.
7. What is necessary to ensure compliance with all relevant requirements?
There are a few things to consider. Compliance with the conditions of planning will need to be issued by a relevantly qualified professional. This is required as a condition of planning but may also be required by the lender of your mortgage to release stage payments. The installation must also comply with Epa Code of Practice and Part H building regulations. It is essential that whoever is carrying out the installation is competent, experienced and has updated knowledge of new regulations. Tpw systems offer all the above as standard.
